The U.S. is now the 2nd largest Spanish-Speaking country in the world. By 2020 the Hispanic population is expected to reach 70 million. According to the Selig Center for Economic Growth at the University of Georgia, the Latino population controlled $653 billion in spending power in 2003, and this number is expected to reach more than $1 trillion in 2008 According to The Insight Research Corporation the U.S. Latino community is growing so much and at such a rapid pace that Hispanics are no longer just the fastest growing minority—they are the fastest growing sector in the entire U.S. population “The foreign-born population grew from 9.6 million in 1970 to 28.4 million in 2000 reflecting the high level of international migration during the past generation.” The U.S. Census estimates the current number to be over 33 million. About 57% of the foreign-born population comes from Latin America.
